Cuando se aprende un segundo idioma como el inglés americano es común enfocarse en estudiar todas las formas gramaticales existentes y en la pronunciación para así hablar con fluidez. Pero, ¿Qué pasa cuando nos encontramos conversando casualmente con un nativo y nos comentan “it’s raining cats and dogs”? Obviamente no están lloviendo perros y gatos, pero entonces, ¿qué querrá decir? Esto es solo una expresión para decir que “está lloviendo muy fuerte”.

When learning a second language for example English, it is common to focus on studying all the grammatical forms and giving a lot of attention to the pronunciation so we could speak fluently. But, what happens if we are having a casual conversation with an American and they say “it’s raining cats and dogs”? obviously, it isn’t raining cats and dogs, but what did he mean by saying that? Well, that was just an expression which substitutes that “it is raining hard”.

What is a slang?

It consists in phrases or expressions with a different meaning from the original. Slang is an informal language that is used in the streets of countries where English is the first or native language. Since it is an informal way to speak, the meaning of the words or expressions used aren’t easy to find in common dictionaries.
